Having the opportunity to photograph sweet newborn babies make me so happy to be living in Madison Wisconsin because it seems like half the population of women are pregnant!

Soon to post is pictures from the maternity shoot! It was an awesome success and I can not wait to share.

Also I will launch my new blog soon! I am going to leave blogger and go with word press blogs.

Where to meet: Madison Arboretum Park at the visitor center and walk to the FLOWERING TREES. You can not miss them, and REALLY you do not want to!!! That is the #1 reason for doing the shoot now and not waiting. You will have to look around but I should be easy to find! I am 5ft2" shoulder length brown hair.

What to bring: I love props! If there is something special, cool, or you just have an idea, PLEASE BRING IT! This way you will feel that the shoot is more customized to you! examples: blanket to lay on, (best with an awesome design, fantastic colors, meaningful to you!) your husband or your kids(great prop) flowers, fabric (long pieces of fabric look great!) guitar, hats, baby shoes or clothes, or even paint (you could draw/paint something on your beautiful belly...basically something that tells a story or portrays you strongly.

What to wear: Really depends on your taste and how you want to express yourself. I love color, layers, scarves (all that photographs well)
typically it is better to have tighter fitting close for maternity shoot (like super tight).

What to expect: Pictures that you will love, but not too many. I would guess about 10 stellar ones. THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO PURCHASE ANYTHING! A secure online gallery will be emailed to you. Then if you or someone you share the gallery with can purchase prints or a digital file for a really reasonable price.

I love mother daughter pictures. Gemma was not into getting her picture taken. Who knows why some children love to get their picture taken and some do not. Gemma is super outgoing and LOVES attention, but not so much attention from my camera. Her mother did a great job luring her in while Gemma's friend was running around.

Country girl {engagment session}

One of my favorite parts of being a professional photography is getting to know my clients. Almost instantly Meghan and me became friends. I went to her house to show her wedding albums and we got to know each other better. I got to see the kind of style she likes to decorate in her house. This was a really unexpected lesson for me. In general I do get a good sense of what style my client wants, but to have a consultation in her house was awesome. So my now good friend Meghan really is a county girl. Therefore I did try to edit her images more "county/antique".

Two things really amazed me about this quick mini "engagement" session. One was how inlove INLOVE Meghan & Billy are. They actually have been married 5 years, and they still have so much love dust floating around them. It is adorable and refreshing! They got married in a quite ceremony with just the two of them before Billy went to Iraq. There wedding or "re' wedding is in August this year. I can not wait to go photograph their wedding in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania!!!
The second thing was this session ended up being a mini session that was not "planned" out. There was a only this day for the session before I was moving to Madison Wisconsin. So the spontaneity was just awesome! I did not even know this swing existed! I believe when you are doing the right work for you the world just opens up and perfect things just happen. So in this "engagement" session the perfect places just kept arising.

Helen & Seamus are from Ireland but love the United States and hope to soon relocate to Pennsylvania. Honestly, I don't think you could find a much nicer & thoughtful man than Seamus. He brought Helen, the lady he has been inlove with for years to one of her favorite place & not only ask her to marry her, but had almost all of the details of their destination wedding planned. So happily Helen boarded a plane a few months later & got married at the Willows in Radnar Pennsylvania.

I had never heard of a wedding where the couple unites themselves without any officiant. But this was their plan. In Pennsylvania you can have a Quaker wedding ceremony.

I had been at another wedding here at the Willows a couple of years ago. I was in the wedding party and LOVED their sweets for getting ready. Everything was perfect!
This wedding was so nice and intimate. 2 people in LOVE marrying each other in front of a fire and 2 adults and a little girl.

These children are sooooooooooooo fun and CUTE! Ah! makes my job easy(ish). I have to say K (the little girl) gave me a work out trying to capture her bright eyes. She is 2 and she is FAST!!! but cute! so you know I love the game!
When I see siblings play it makes me so happy! I was lucky to have 2 sisters to play with, and now my 2 girls are playing together a lot. (annalee almost 18months). K&C's mother is amazing and smart and lucky me! loves photographs of her children. her home is nicely decorated with frames that tell the history of her family. I love seeing photographs of families on walls! I think they look so nice, and it is so fun to look back.

K&C's mother is going to have me design a photo album from 2 sessions we have recently done, both studio and on location.
photo books are a GREAT!!! way to display photos too!

As you know I am HUGE fan on taking high quality photos at people's home. I just see the richness of what can manifest with an on location shoot. I photograph using natural light and I follow the families interest.
C's father is a musican and plays regularly in Honesdale and the surrounding area. It was so cute to watch C try to play like his father (who was amazing!)

Ah! How cute is he. C is in first grade and I have to say 6-9 year olds are the best to take their picture! They are so comfortable to be themselves and they like being in front of the camera. I do find that most children feel special having their photo taken.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE on location photography shoots. i seriously wish i could do them everyday. the post processing....well, i wish someone else would do that.
I came back to Beth and Rick's later in the day to take a few pictures that we could not finish. I went upstairs and in the babies soon to be room was an awesome shadow casting on the wall.
i immediately moved everything so we could quickly have our play!
I love these photos, and i want to play with them more! but i wanted to give a sneak peak at how awesome this whole shoot was.

he is too cute! and i love photography too.
i probably only took pictures for 10 minutes or less.
see good photography is painless for the participants...actually my clients say it is fun for them.

it is hard to believe from these pictures that Elly was shy and NOT into getting her picture taken. i swear so many kids when they feel uncomfortable with being in front of the camera stick out their tongue. or curl it up in weird positions inside their mouth.
i have so many frames of Elly staring blankly or sticking out her tongue.
i was worried for the first 5 minutes that she would not open up and i would not be able to capture her.
i think i just have such good luck with kids in photographing them. i often instigate play with kids when i am photographing them. and if you look through my blog or work you will see that i love photographing children jumping. they feel so special when they see how high they get but mostly it is just something that allows them to play.
i did not even ask Elly to jump or play. it was freezing out and kids hate being cold. she just walked away when her parents got a couple of pictures of themselves and she started playing.
it was awesome! my camera is just begging for children to play in front of it.

i love how great this session turned out. family pictures in winter is awesome.

i love family photos!!! Especially outside it is easy to get so many great pictures. the Harris's wanted a family photo for Christmas pictures. it was cold out and i think i only took photographs for 30 minutes and there was so many nice pictures.
it is never too late for family pictures and never too cold outside to get great pictures.

how awesome is she! and she is 12! i thought she was at least 16. i know i was not as cool as she is when i was her age.
i have to be a DORK and say i just loved photographing her. she told me she wanted to be a photographer too and she really loved my work. i felt so special and touched.
i could of photographed her ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLll day and we would of had a blast, but the sun was setting. as is i had to kick up my iso to even capture her.

cathy maguire came up with an idea of printing on silk and making a parachute. UNREAL! she sewed it all when her kids were in bed at night. it is the most beautiful thing! i really feel that this piece of art should go to children's museums.
she had thought originally that the children would play with it, but after it was done we thought no, this is too amazing and really it should be kept on the wall and we thought someone might want to purchase it. well, we did not tell jon about our changed plans and he suggested to the kids play with it.
so they did. me and peter could not breath, cathy was laughing as the kids pulled and tugged on her hard work.
the parachute survived, but there are creases in it...but the kids LOVED IT!

the show was AWESOME!!! thanks to peter english, cathy maguire and my husband jon janaka. i cant tell you how hard we worked and the interactive photography show turned out better than planned. people had a great time, both small and tall! the children LOVED it! and the parents were thrilled that their children really got to interact at an art show. the children were TOTALLY into it!!! the huge silly picture of jon that was infront of plexiglass inwhich the children could draw on seemed to be the most fun for the kids.

This is so exciting for me! This will be my first show, and it is going to be amazing! Peter does SUCH phenomenal work printing and framing, and his partner Cathy Maguire who is the most creative person alive is exhibit designer and has put on many shows in NYC and has some really fun and unique ways planned for exhibiting the photographs that are kid friendly. The show is going to be interactive and so engaging that all ages are going to have the best time. There will be installation pieces looking through peepholes, magnet boards of gorgeous photos that children can rearrange, a silk parachute, some photos that children can even draw on (that is on Plexiglas with washable crayons) and more. Peter English has also been exploring unique ways to print and the results are awesome! the evening is bound to be enjoyed for all that come.

ahhhhhh...the fall is sooooooooooooo beautiful! it is the perfect time to take portraits outside. every year this japenese maple turns this color red before it loses it's leaves. i have been able to capture great pictures in front of it each year. anyone want a photo session with this tree better call today cause the leaves fall fast.

I love apple trees! they give us such a delightful fruit plus they make the best climbing trees. even a one year old baby can enjoy sitting in an apple tree. currently apple orchards are my favorite places to take photographs... come play!

I really love 2 year olds, especially when you can just play with them and not have to discipline their wild, care-free spirits. A has so much spunk and enthusiasm that she makes photographing her so easy. we got to do a photo session both inside and outside.

A is so sweet and fun. I had a backdrop and lights set up in a small front room, and she thought it would be more fun to play as she usually does and went to the stairs and peeked through. i think most people remember peeking through the banisters when they were a child and there was a feeling of almost being invisible.

This lovely couple got married last September but it RAINED all day and they got no formal pictures of the 2 of them. So i got the honor to photograph them in their wedding attire with no pressure. I love photographing love with or with out a wedding dress. But when the bride is so dressed up it makes it so much more beautiful. Happy year anniversary!
